The Three Godly Amigos – Faith, Hope, Love
Many have heard this phrase: For these things continue forever, Faith, Hope, Love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. But do you know where these are defined in the Bible? Here are the 3 locations.
This great word is summed up in Hebrews 11:1. Now faith is the substance things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Notice faith is NOW! We need to start believing NOW! It is also SUBSTANCE. It is something we can grasp, but we need to believe NOW. We don’t see the evidence in any way yet. But it is coming. A delicious dinner that I can sink my teeth into awaits me tonight, but I don’t know what it is – can’t smell it – can’t see it – don’t know what time it will be served, but I have faith that a sumptuous feast is coming my way this evening.
Many don’t know where Hope is defined: Romans 8:24-25. . . but Hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance. When we are young, we hope to get a car or to get married. It doesn’t happen immediately. We patiently work toward it day, weeks, and years until it happens. It’s not like McDonald’s where we expect IMMEDIATE service. That’s not Hope!
Very common knowledge is Love’s description in I Corinthians 13. It is summed up in verses 4-7. Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Verse 8: Love never fails.
The Love verses that most people miss are scattered in I John 3-5: By this we know love, because He (Jesus) laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren . . And whatever we ask we receive from Him, BECAUSE WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS AND DO THOSE THINGS THAT ARE PLEASING IN HIS SIGHT! (Asked but didn’t receive? Are you doing those things that are pleasing in His sight? Just asking.)
Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is born of God and knows God. . for God is love. God showed how much he loved us by sending this only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life thorough Him. This is real love, it is not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice (full payment) to take away our sins.
Faith, Hope, Love Together
Some, even the devout often don’t know how to work these together. They don’t know how to obtain God’s 7,700 promises in the Bible. His Word never fails or changes!
Find the Promise for what you desire to receive
- Totally trust (have Faith) in God for HIS Promise for your situation, believing His Word.
- Don’t consider any of the contradictory circumstances or words you hear from people!
- Give Praise to God for the Answer until you receive it. Then Praise Him even more!
We could go on and on, but these things continue forever, Faith, Hope, Love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. If you didn’t know the precise definition, you can now look them up for yourself.
