My friend Marlin Bates was an 80+-year-old former World War II Infantry Sergeant under General Collins in conjunction with General Patton. He learned some of the following details only after the War was over. While we were out working on his land near the Mississippi River, he unveiled this fascinating true story about “the War To End All Wars.” It taught me volumes about Satan. I’m wrote this so we don’t forget.
At the end of World War II General Patton’s U.S. troops had gobbled up huge chunks of land, and were just 20 miles from Poland. These Americans had paid a heavy price in deaths to take that ground. But, the order was given to pull back to an agreed upon position and give the territory over to Stalin’s USSR Troops. Why did this land have to be handed over?
The reason was an agreement penned at a conference held in Yalta. It was attended by Joseph Stalin, the Dictator of the USSR; Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of Great Britain; and FDR (Franklin Delano Roosevelt) President of the USA. At this meeting an agreement was written giving Russia ½ of Germany after the war.
President Roosevelt (who had become a paraplegic) had a daughter named Anna. She met and married a man named Colonel Dahl. Colonel Dahl’s assignment was to push the President’s wheelchair everywhere –even to the bathroom. He and the President were almost inseparable. However at the Yalta Conference, armed Soviet soldiers prevented the Colonel from accompanying FDR into the meeting. The President could only be accompanied by his Aid. Who was this Aid? His name was Alger Hiss, later identified as a Communist Spy.
In this meeting Churchill argued vigorously not to allow the USSR to annex any land. However, Joseph Stalin prevailed when Roosevelt (convinced by his aid, Hiss) voted with him. Soon after the War, the U.S. learned that Stalin had no intention of keeping his part of the bargain, but the damage had already been done and the 50-year Cold War began.
Isn’t it interesting that while Hitler had been serving Satan’s wishes by killing the Jews, Satan was preparing his replacement Joseph Stalin and using him to actually undermine Hitler? No wonder Jesus stated Satan’s job description in John 10:10a. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. Satan used Hitler to kill Jews, and then used Stalin to kill even more Jews, all the while plotting to overthrow both men. Obviously, anyone counting on Satan’s loyalty is going to be very disappointed.
Let’s look at what Jesus said in the last half of John 10:10. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. Who is the “they”? It’s you and me! You see, if something is good, and/or good for anyone, it is always from God! Here’s God’s message to you from Jeremiah 29:11-13. For I know the thoughts (plans) I think (have) for you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
Here again is how Satan is described in John 8:44. You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.
Finally, here’s a warning: Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. Here is the final end to some of the participants of Yalta:
Franklin D. Roosevelt – Died less than 6 months after the conference.
Alger Hiss – Convicted of spying and jailed. He died in disgrace.
Adolph Hitler – Committed suicide in 1945.
Joseph Stalin – Wife committed suicide; son died of Alcoholism; his daughter Svetlana hated him and defected to the USA. Alone, he died mysteriously in 1953.
You cannot make a deal with the devil that he will keep. Satan is never on your side. He comes to steal, kill and destroy. His intent is to kill you. So stick with Jesus. He came so you could have life and that more abundantly!

This has to be one fo the best descriptions of how satan works I’ve ever read. Great post! I even talked about it today on my blog.
